The Holding Heart - Individual, Relationship Psychotherapy & Life Coaching, LLC
Intuitive Heart Services, Communication Consulting, Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator
My calling as a therapist began initially from a passion to understand personal communication, starting as speech pathologist specializing in early child development and mother-child interaction. Soon after, I embarked on a career passion to study adult relational communication -- in intimate relationships, friendships and life conversations. And then psychotherapy found me. Now with over 25 years of service as a mental health therapist and communication consultant, I still love helping people navigate their human connection with one another in essential (interpersonal) life relationships, as well as help people strengthen the relationship with their own self, their intrapersonal relationship, all for the purpose of living healthier lives, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In this professional endeavor I often fuse Western (traditional) with Eastern (nontraditional) perspectives of change; incorporating various perspectives, such as neurobiology and energy work along with practical strategies -- like those developed by Brené Brown--- along with compassionate guidance to help people create a joyous life -- not just to resolve old patterns of fear and dis-ease, but to express one's authentic self and live a wholehearted live with greater love and well-being. As an important part of my own personal and professional growth, I have cultivated a 30-year life long practice of mindfulness and meditation. Now, I support clients in developing their own meditation practice that can foster a foundation for wellness and resilient change. Coincidentlly, through my own meditation journey, I discovered my gift as an intutive, as someone who is clairsentient, having access to a spontaneous 'knowing' accessed with intent. The Intuitive Heart tab describes my services offering intuitve readings, channeling and as an energy worker / ThetaHealing® practitioner.
I am constantly inspired in my work by my own clients and many professionals including -- Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Brene Brown, Dr. Bruce Lipton MD, Dr. Dan Siegel MD, Pemra Chodrin, Gregg Braden, Stan Tatkin, Dr. Sue Johnson, John and Julie Gottman, Esther Perel, David Whyte and many more.
EDUCATION ▪︎ TRAINING ▪︎ LICENSUREI have a Master's Degree in Social Work, with specialized training in mental health and personal growth for individuals, couples and families. I have continued my training and emphasis in relational communication and therapy with training in EMT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), PACT (Psychobiological Attachment Committment Therapy) , The Gottman Approach to couples therapy and have trained with Dan Siegel, MD on 'Attachment Therapy for Couples'. With remarkable advances in brain studies and imaging over the past 10 years, so much more is known about our ability to change, from what previously seemed to be unchangeable. Now we understand that not only can therapy help change our behavior, but strategies for change have been shown to actually change our brains. Very exciting. Recently, my practice has focused on this new wave of information on whole brain strategies to include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming), Mindfulness Practice, EM-Wave technology by Heartmath™ for heart-brain coherence. I have been fortunate to spend 5 years furthering my education and practice in France and Spain. This has been a rich life experience and more recently have returned to be in beautiful Colorado to do what I love -- empower people in connection with self and one another.
I began my professional life in Seattle, Washington. In 2008 I took a professional hiatus to live and work in Spain and France. Living in Europe on my own was a rare opportunity to experience other cultures and venture into sharing my skills in new ways. I returned to the U.S. in 2014, relocating to the Boulder, Colorado area. Happily, I discovered the Front Range offers such an array of ways to connect with nature, as simple as taking in a daily vista of mountain sky. I enjoy my life here with my Tibetan Terrier dog, and stay active with yoga, dancing, hiking, pickleball, and motorcyling. love dabbling in my own artwork, photography and poetry and I'm always looking for a new venue to experience a vast array of live music from jazz to Indian ragas.
I feel grateful to work doing what I love and what seems to be my life's calling. I get to help people wherever they are on their life's journey, and now with video conferencing, wherever they live. I love having the opportunity to meet all kinds of people around the world and their unique approaches to being human. Many of us it seems we are in a vortex of change these days, both personally and globally. This can seem unsettling and yet is such a great opportunity to develop new strengths and awaken to the life we desire. I appreciate the opportunity to be of service during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact me for a free initial consultation so we can determine how I might best assist you. ~Deborah
