Like a lotus flower we
too have the ability to

rise from the mud,
bloom out of the
darkness, and
radiate into
the world.

The Holding Heart - Individual, Relationship Psychotherapy & Life Coaching, LLC
Communication Consulting, Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator

My calling as a therapist began with the study of communication that has led to a career passion. I started as a speech therapist working with children helping parents and children strengthen their connection.  I was readily drawn to study adult relational communication -- in intimate relationships, friendships, life conversations and then, psychotherapy found me. Now with over 25 years as a therapist and communication consultant I love collaborating with people to live more satisfying and healthy lives. To this day I remain fascinated by how we navigate connection with one another in so many essential life relationships. Another  important part of my personal and professional growth has been the development of a life practice of meditation and mindfulness.  I can say that I am definitely steeped in both Eastern and Western perspectives of change. I love fusing various life perspectives with practical strategies and compassionate guidance to offer my clients a profound opportunity to create a joyous life -- not just to resolve old patterns of fear and dis-ease, but to bring the power of their authentic self to their work, their relationships and their life. Simply put, it's what I call a living wholeheartedly, which I believe is our true nature even if it feels like we're alone or have taken a side road!  That's where we can work together.

I have a Master's Degree in Social Work, with specialized training in mental health and personal growth for  individuals, couples and families.  I have continued my training and emphasis in relational communication and therapy with training in EMT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), PACT (Psychobiological Attachment Committment Therapy) , The Gottman Approach to couples therapy and have trained with Dan Siegel, MD on 'Attachment Therapy for Couples'.  With remarkable advances in brain studies and imaging over the past 10 years, so much more is known about our ability to change, from what previously seemed to be unchangeable. Now we understand that not only can therapy help change our behavior, but strategies for change have been shown to actually change our brains. Very exciting. Recently, my practice has focused on this new wave of information on whole brain strategies to include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming), Mindfulness Practice, EM-Wave technology for mind-brain coherence. I have been fortunate to spend the last few years furthering my education and practice in France and Spain. This has been a rich life experience and now I have returned to be closer to family, with a new chapter to do what I love -- empowering people.

Note text

I recently moved from Seattle, Washington to relocate to Boulder ,Colorado area. The Front Range offers so many opportunites to expereince nature. I enjoy activities with my Tibetan Terrier dog, dancing and yoga while pursuing interests in meditation, art, writing, poetry and photography, and listening to jazz.

I feel grateful I get to do the work I love and that I feel I was meant to do. I get to help people wherever they are on their journey, and wherever they live. I love having the opportunity to meet all kinds of people around the world and their unique approaches to being human. Many of us it seems we are in a vortex of change these days, both personally and globally. This can seem unsettling and yet is such a great opportunity to develop new strengths and awaken to the life we desire. I appreciate the opportunity to be of service during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact me for a free initial consultation so we can determine how I might best assist you.  ~Deborah
